Makakilo-Kapolei Neighborhood Board to Decide on Race Track, Rail, GET

Neighborhood Board No. 34, representing areas of Makakilo, Kapolei, and Honokai Hale, will hold its regular general meeting on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, 7:00 – 9:45 P.M., at the Kapolei High School Cafetorium, 91-5007 Kapolei Parkway. The board will discuss and act on the following business items:

  • HECO/NextEra cost projections and method of supplying 30-50 megawatts of energy needed for total rail project, existing infrastructure, and power generating plants.
  • Response from City Council member Kimberly Pine regarding board’s request for rail technology change status.
  • State Legislature House Bill (HB) 134 – HD1 relating to taxation and extension of the General Excise (GET) surcharge.
  • HB 1329 – HD2 relating to bond funding and a motor sports facility; findings from Friday, March 20, 2015, meeting to be considered for action.

The general public is invited to attend and participate in the board’s discussion. Community concerns are welcome for the board’s consideration. Testimony relating to the business agenda will be accepted on the floor after giving notice to the chairperson.

Pat Pang (Nozaki) is a retired DOE secondary school teacher who taught school in Waianae for almost 40 years. She has served the community as a member of the Waianae Neighborhood Board and as a delegate to the 1978 Hawaii State Constitutional Convention. She was raised on the Nanakuli Hawaiian Homestead and resided in Waianae during her years as a teacher.
